By nature, God is love, and everything He does is out of love, no matter how messy and dirty we are. At the same time, God is just. Him being just, He had to punish sin and He did it through punishing His Son on our behalf.
Does that mean God is not holy? Does it mean He does not hate sin? Can we live a reckless life as we want since it is not about our holiness?
Of course not! God is holy and He hates sin. I personally hate sin, and I have lived a holy life to the max – but it does not move God, it only benefits me here on the earth. My holiness is not a factor for God’s love for me; it does not diminish or increase His love for me. It only moves me not God.
Since your holiness is not a factor for God’s love, so your sins are. Your sins do not factor God’s move in your life, He already moved in your life and He is already dwelling in you – He is not stuck. Therefore, when you sin, you are doing injustice and bringing trouble to yourself not God. Sin will destroy your life.
“Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.” (1 Corinthians 6:18 NKJV)
Your sins cannot make you lose your salvation, they cannot reduce God’s love for you and they will never separate you from Him. Sin only affects you as a person; you face all the consequences of it.
It will destroy your life; it will open way for the devil in your life and this is the worst experience ever. The more you indulge in sin; is the more you give Satan access in your life, he will steal, kill and destroy it. Satan wants to destroy you, nothing more.
The devil has no love for man, never has he, he only wants to see you in total agony, in pain, in despair, crying. He does not want you to prosper in whichever way. He corrupts your reason; he corrupts your relationship with the living righteous God.
Don’t you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living. (Romans 6:16 NLT)
Every sin has a wage, and that wage is death. It may not be a physical death, but death in your finances, in your social life, depression, stress – name it. That is worse than physical death itself. Spiritual death soars in and leaves you a rag.
You literally lose something when you indulge in sin, because the devil comes to steal, kill and destroy; this is well stressed on in John 10:10
Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. (1 Peter 5:8 NIV)
Every time you sin, you lose something in return, that is how terrible sin is. You should not live in sin because it will open doors for the devil in your life, harden your heart, make you lose focus for God’s call on your life, and lose the love of God towards you.
Imagine robbing a bank and the police arrest you, God will still love you so much even if you are in jail. His love for you is independent of your performance.
Concerning God, your sins do not count to Him; actually, they are not an issue to Him anymore because they are remitted by Jesus’ blood. Even if a believer dies after fornicating, he goes straight in heaven. The unfortunate part is that he goes in heaven faster.
I know you are wondering why I would say something like that, but yes, I have said it. And it’s the truth. We are not inheriting eternal life by our works. Everything is by faith in what Christ has accomplished for us. If you never received salvation by performing well, then you cannot lose it by your bad works, period!
Living holy does not move God or increase His love for you. He loves you despite your good actions. The Bible says;
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son…” (John 3:16)
God loved you when you were still in sin, you did not have to do good for Him to love you. He did love you in your sins and now nothing can separate you from His love.
You were born in sin, and yet He still loved you before you chose Him, before you knew of Him, before you loved Him back.
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8 KJV)
Besides, living a holy life will draw you closer to Him. It will shut out the devil and increase your love for Him (Not His love for you); you will feel more secure under His presence. The presence of God has power, consumes, and makes one feel secure, protected, and in a sanctuary, where peace and tranquility reside.
Therefore, submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
(James 4:7 NKJV)
All this affects you, not God. His love for you is independent of your actions. You cannot do anything to entice or decrease His love for you. He chose to love us through what His Son accomplished for us at the cross. God sees us in the spirit and our spirit is perfect like Jesus Christ.
“…because as He is, so are we in this world.” (1 John 4:17)
